'THREE BOYS FROM PASADENA'
an exhibition of photographs by:
Mark Arbeit
George Holz
Just Loomis
curated by June Newton
On June 3, 2009, “Three Boys From Pasadena”, an exhibit of photographs by Mark Arbeit, George Holz and Just Loomis opened at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin. The show was conceived and curated by June Newton.
June first conceptualized the idea of the “Three Boys from Pasadena” after Helmut’s death. Mark Arbeit, George Holz and Just Loomis first met Helmut Newton in 1979 while students at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California. Eventually all three became Helmut’s assistants during one of the most exciting and prolific times in Helmut’s photography. For almost thirty years, they kept in touch and shared their personal work with both Helmut and June.
The show consists of 25 pieces of each photographer’s work, edited and selected by June Newton. Along with the photographs are never before seen memorabilia (photographs, Polaroid’s, correspondence, journals and books) from their time working together with Helmut.
This is a celebration of mentorship and friendship; many years in the making.
"As I wrote, you three were the only ones who became photographers in your own right. You three compliment one another and you all had a unique relationship with Helmut and you’ve become his offspring-you have your own voices. It was a special time in your lives - all four of you and I was the witness. It will never come again." -June Newton, Chateau Marmont, Hollywood, February 13, 2008

Just Loomis, George Holz, and Mark Arbeit images were printed by BowHaus Inc. The black and white images were printed using True Black and White™, an archival pigment ink printing process. These prints were made with a combination of artistry, technique and BowHaus’ proprietary software. The BowHaus True Black and White™ approach, produces longer-lasting museum quality monochrome prints. Using a deep rich black with shades of grey results in stunning monochromatic prints that are archival and fade resistant.
True Black and White™ is designed exclusively for use with large format Canon printers and was released in January of 2008.
